Girl Scouts plan 100th Anniversary Gala

Great memories from childhood are ones that are built to last, particularly if you were a Girl Scout. If Girl Scouts is part of your past, present or future, Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina hopes you’ll join them and help make a new memory at our Centennial Celebration Extraordinaire.

This adults-only, gala event is open to the public and will take place on April 19 at 6:30 p. m. at the Southeastern Institute for Manufacturing and Technology (SiMT) in Florence. The semiformal evening will feature live music from Murrells Inlet favorites, Sea-Cruz; dinner and dancing; recognition of area women honored as part of Mary Dean Brewer Women of Distinction and Women of Distinction celebrations; and a live and silent auction. WPDE’s Allyson Floyd will host the evening as emcee. Tickets to this event are $100 and can be purchased online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/223060 or by calling 843-669-5174, ext. 150.

All proceeds go to support girls in this area as they participate in the Girl Scout program. Girl Scouts earn badges for skills in financial literacy and environmental action, hike and camp, participate in the cookie program, and much more. They improve neighborhoods, protect the planet, design robots and establish sports clinics during their Girl Scout experience.

Girl Scouts is celebrating its 100-year anniversary in 2012, and this gala event is the perfect way to help support girls in our community and recognize the impact that Girl Scouting has on this area. Community businesses and organizations have already stepped up and announced their support for the Girl Scout organization-Sonoco, McLeod Health, Progress Energy and WPDE are sponsors for this event. Sponsorship opportunities are still available; contact Pat Baxley at 843-669-5174 for more details.
